Posted - 07 Jul 2005 : 10:45:52 I am about to unleash my AD&D party into the realms of Tethyr, Amn and Calimshan.
My hopes are that any of you have some ideas, adventure links, general knowledge or anything at all about this area, as i am very inexperienced in playing in that certain region... Lots of DM experience elsewhere, but not there...
Any help is welcomed with open arms... |

Is ordering online an option for you? If so, you may want to check such sites as RPGNow.com and nobleknight.com which offer FR products in PDF format at low prices.
You can try Ebay also, but I find Aaron's efforts over at nobleknight.com to be more satisfying.

Yes, there is an entire chapter dedicated to the ancient realms of southern Faerun entitled -- The Imperial South.

There is lots of great history in this area. I advise anything involving the ancient Dwarven realm of Shanatar. Because it was such a powerful civilization when it flourished long ago and because they were dwarves, you can build giant underground cities for the party to explore.
Another locale in this area I always wanted to work in are teh Islands off the coast of Tethyr. They full of pirates and ghosts. You can't go wrong with this combination! |

It's not so much changes as deletions. You'd done some text on the discovery of the Zahyra's (Court Mage of Tethyr) tomb and how she existed in ghost-type form and wanted to talk to Zaranda and Haedrak, given that there was some sort of prophecy involving Mystra floating around. Typical, layered, mysterious, realms-hooky stuff from Steven, the writer and soon to be author of "Blackstaff" (coming to all good book stores soon - but not soon enough!). Another bit cut related to the tombs of the Shoon emperors in Nykkar, the most interesting of which related to one of the Shoon empresses who was a believer in Raurinese Reincarnation traditions - whatever they are!
Essential realmslore IMO, and not to be forgotten just because it didn't make the final cut for LOI. Heck, the LOI timeline that Steven handed out at GEN-CON the year LOI was released is a superior version to the one that ended up in the text (the Prince/King Azoun snafu notwithstanding). I make sure that this kind of stuff hangs around and isn't forgotten by future authors and designers - where I get the chance.

Do me a favor, pal-o-mine, and send me copies of those files if you have them. Two hard drive crashes and having 95% of my belongings in storage keep that material out of reach. And I've a yen to reread that stuff now and do something with it....
And yes, I'm assuming George has this stored away--he's got a better reference library than any of us aside from Ed or Eric... |

Posted - 14 Jul 2005 : 22:43:55 I'm also told that the preview for LANDS OF INTRIGUE (which I believe WOtC still has online) has different material in it that was edited out of the print release (and thus isn't in the PDF either).
I'm too close to it, nor have I actually done a line-by-line comparison to see the difference. He of the Krash-Os was the one who pointed it out to me ages ago, and I don't recall the difference.....
Steven Who just might reread LOI to revive old ideas for the bodice-ripping romance of the First Kings of Tethyr and their hot-blooded Vizeras! |

Posted - 07 Jul 2005 : 14:55:53 Empires of the Sands (an earlier and less expansive detailing of Amn, Tethyr, and Calimshan) is also a possibility, that is, if you can't find EotSS.
And Lands of Intrigue is available for free download at the WotC website:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads
