Posted - 03 May 2005 : 21:14:53 Hi folks!
I cannot find an appropiate table for randomly generating NPC's alignments. In the DMG 3.0, page 137, there is table 4 - 42 Power Center Alignment. But, it is for power centers. Maybe, a table per regions is needed. For example, the most common alignments of Cormyr are LG, LN, and NG, while Calimshan has LN, N, and NE. Then, how would a table for the Western Heartlands look like?
Any suggestions?
Best regards, Manuel |

Posted - 04 May 2005 : 17:59:49 Been thining about this and regional tables, not sure if any will work well though thinking along lines of something like.
75 percent are most common for region. Example: alignments of Cormyr are 25 percent LG, 25 percent LN, and 25 percent NG. Each of the other alignments 4 percent. The final 1 percent the alignment of leader (or if council leardership the average of the effective alinment).
Regions having most common of more or less of 3 the math will change some, however would stay with 75 percent most common divided by number of alignments, 25 percent divided by other less common alignments, the remainder to avoid factions of the percent leadership alignment.
Quick and not prefect for that reason, it might be good enough.
Of course with the wars of Good vs. Evil and Law vs. Chaos the percentages can be subject to change on a daily basis and it is posible that an extreme Good or Lawful society could reduce the presense of unwanted. |

Posted - 04 May 2005 : 17:36:48 This sounds like a fairly good idea. Just remember to make sure you distribute the percentages in proportion to presence of each alignement, so that there's not an equal chance of ending up with a town with a NG alignment and a town with a LN alignement in a region that has an alignment that is predominately one or the other. Also, you might want to consider adding in, at a much smaller percentage chance, the possibility that there could be a town of an alignment that isn't listed as one of the major alignment in the area. So, maybe a 6% chance of getting an alignment that is one of the other six alignments, and an even smaller chance of getting one that is of a wildly different alignment. That way you can account for variation and maybe even come up with some nifty adventuring ideas on the fly.
P.S. Hymn: One of the lines in your signature is a little off: it should be Saru mou ki kara chiru Saru (monkeys) mou (even) trees (ki) kara (from) chiru (fall/to fall). God bless you 6 semesters of college Japanese. |

Have no fear. There have been no announced plans for 4th edition as of yet.
... Which means next week.

Posted - 03 May 2005 : 22:11:58 Hmm yes it would help, but I rather go with the "mood" of the caracther rather than the area itself. But for more "common" NPC's it would be a greate help to have a random AL table for each region. Perhaps something for WoTC to ponder on for the 4.ed release. If they don't put another update of the realms book out there. |

Posted - 03 May 2005 : 21:40:25 For the Western Heartlands, according to the FRCS, all alignment are available, in such an extent, that no alignment is listed as beeing the most common. I am looking for something like this:
Alignment Table -- Cormyr
d% Alignment
... LG
... LN
... NG
... ...
Alignment Table -- Calimshan
d% Alignment
... LN
... N
... E
... ...
Alignment Table -- Western Hertlands
d% Alignment
... xx
... xx
... xx
... ...

Posted - 03 May 2005 : 21:27:24 Hmm, perhaps LN, CG, LE. Mainly due to that there are many tradeing cities around in the area as well as some wilderness making a good base for CG. That's my take on it any how. |
