Posted - 27 Nov 2004 : 16:57:48 Greetings all,
I’m getting ready to introduce my players to a Halruaan skyship, and knowing my group they are going to want all sorts of physical information on it. I’ve read through everything I can find ( 2nd ed through 3.5 stuff) on them and was hoping to beg some advice/help from you fine folks.
Basically what I can’t figure out is how big the ship is and the rough size of the crew. The rather strange picture in the Shinning South book shows three mast, which suggest to me a 70 + foot long vessel. However the cargo capacity is listed at 15 tons while most cargo ships 70ft long have a capacity of 100 + tons.
Any advice, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Is that not the point? Well, part of it I suppose, other than just talking about and sharing enjoyment of the Realms. Although I suppose helping probably comes into that anyway.
And don't forget flirting with the lovely Lady Hooded One! |

If you're interested, there are D20 sourcebooks that detail the information you are looking for on airships. |

Posted - 28 Nov 2004 : 02:08:01 There's mention of crew size in Magic of Faerun:
"A skyship is in all other respects like a standard sailing ship with respect to crew and dimensions.
- Magic of Faerun (Pg. 159)
There's also some really good description on the skyship and the parts it has for vertical and horizontal movements. |

Thanks! I didn't know about the dragon issue, and completely forgot about the 2nd edition Shining south!
Now just to tunnel through my boxes of 2nd edition stuff until I find it… ;)
Thanks again!
Hey, not a prob! I enjoy helping others on here.

Posted - 27 Nov 2004 : 18:25:17 In Dragon 124, Ed describes a skyship. Though the article speaks of a single ship and says that it came from Thay, it is otherwise the basis for descriptions of Halruaan skyships.
Sadly, no mention of crew numbers is given.
Have you consulted the 2E version of Shining South? It says that Halruaan skyships have a crew of 20 to 30 sailors.
