Posted - 27 Nov 2002 : 19:32:32 I am currently starting up a small RPG in which I intend for the players to travel to Cormyr. Unfortunately, I know very little about Cormyr. I only really have a tiny amount of reference material.
Could anyone help me on this. A brief description of Cormyr and any DMing ideas within this country would be grately appreciated.
Yours faithfully,

Posted - 29 Nov 2002 : 18:59:40 Thanks for the help, I'll purchase some of those Cormyr books next time I can (though there aren't many FR stockists out here in Norfolk!!!).
Your original post has given me, I hope, enough information to get started.
Thanks,
TDM
PS: Does anyone know where I can download a map of Cormyr? |

Posted - 29 Nov 2002 : 09:49:29 The information I provided is basically set during Azoun's reign. After his death not so much changed, the same threats are still there, but have become bolder.
Cormyr: A Novel is your best reference for a game set during Azoun's reign. |

Posted - 28 Nov 2002 : 16:43:50 Thanks Mumadar except I am setting it during the reign of Azourn IV. I will check out the references you all gave me.
Thanks,

Posted - 28 Nov 2002 : 10:28:47 Nicely summed up Mumadar! The book which you couldnt remember the title is book 2 of the Cormyr Saga: Beyond the High Road by Troy Denning.
I havent read the book but i think it takes place just before Death of the Dragon.
From the two reviews on this novel which are on this site (see the link above), it rates very highly by both reviewers. |

Posted - 28 Nov 2002 : 09:43:09 Which year will the RPG be set in? If it s prior to the death of Azoun, then picturing a heavy forested kingdom in an Arthurian style would already help you to get an image.
The books Cormyr: a Novel, Death of the Dragon (and the one in between who's title I can't think of at the moment...) can provide you with even a better feel. The first book in the series would be the most recommendable.
As for a brief description prior to Azoun's death: The Forest Kingdom Cormyr is a Kingdom with a fairly stereotypical feudal system (late medieval period). Organized standing army (Purple Dragons and War Wizards) as well as a standing Navy. Cormyr has more or less covert expansion ideas towards the east (Dales) and counts as it's worst enemy the Zhentarim (Darkhold in the West and Zhentil Keep + Citadel of the Raven in the East). Goblins and Orcs are some of the most common monsters encountered. Sembia and the Dales are wary of the monarchy, and Sembian merchant princes have been trying to make inroads into the country. The relationship between Cormyr and the Dales might be best described as the current relationship between the US and Europe. Allies, but wary of eachother at the same time.
Hope this helps |

Have a look in the Spawn of the Dragons thread and find the link to the Wizards of the Coast site. I am fairly sure than Volo's Guide to Cormyr [cohr-MEER] is amongst the free downloads.
