WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD:

Has anyone here made it trough the City of the Spider Queen alive? After about ten sessions of humiliation and drudgery, it finally happened yesterday...T.P.K.!

We started ot as an awkward party consisting of:

drow pseudopaladin, ECL 11
tiefling rogue, ECL 11
tiefling eldritch knight, ECL 11
human mystic theurge, ECL 10
dwarf defender cohort, ECL 9
aasimar paladin of thorm ECL 11

We had MAJOR trouble with the ghost at the enterance, constantly running back to the town for restorations, spending money we didn't have enough of anyway, then we had our first deaths, spent some more money. Eventually every one of us died at least once (spent a lot of money again), then we git a bit of a brake when we managed to haul back some stuff we scavanged form the dead drow. We bought wans of CLW, fly etc. Then there were two sessions that looked and felt like a proper D&D sessions, fun with no constant fear of dying, we actually killed without getting killed ourselves. We were on the roll, finally...or so we thought before we entered the wizadrd's tower. Dispatching the few low level wizards was easy, but then the archmage himself showed up, he asked us nicely to leave with our lives before he ges mad. Some of our buffs still functioning we told him to stuff it and attacked him. We were this close >< to doing away with him, but then finger of death, chain lightning, dispell and a couple of other spells resultted in eldritch knight and mystic theurge dropping out of the party. Two players come back as:

human cleric of hoar ECL 11
human druid ECL 11
Dire lion 8hd (came with the druid)

(the dw. defender went also because he was theurge's cohort)

When the new characters came we spent 12000 gp so that the Hoarite can summon a trumpet archon. The plan was to fo to the temple and do away with the blackguard (on whom Hoarite wanted to exact vengance), and the prestess. We managed somehow with the drider vampired (and other kinds thereof), but the corridor filled with forbidances, glyphs of warding and unhallow was too much for us. Priestes, blackguard and a displacer beast fell before us, but then Dorina herself showed up, and fighting her without the buffs (that were constantly being dispelled) was like trying to knock the house down with one's head, even moreso after she bannished the archon. She picked us off one at the time, at one point harmed (or rather healed) herself, and a few minutes after.... T.P.K.!
I felt a bit miserable fter loosing my character and after averyone of us died, but strangley enough i also felt FREE!

So there you have it. If anyone has lived trough the things I described above, please come forward and tell me how.

You should be prepared for more TPKs if continue on. I once ran the adventure in 3.0 and we had 5 TPKs before they even entered the Undying Temple. But my players were stubborn and kept going at it before they finally won. I think the problem was they were into multiclassing too much at first. Its best to KISS and have single class characters with a cleric and a paladin to provide as much support as possible.

Indeed, we found that out the hard way.

I never ran through the adventure because I got rid of the tome shortly after purchasing it. However, I know that ENWorld at one time had more than one thread discussing campaigns that involved running the module. You could try that site and see if anyone there offers some assistance if no one here can help.
