Coming off another discussion how have people approached placing Green Ronin's Freeport in the Realms? Have you put it with the Pirate Isles and reconciled it there or put it somewhere else entirely?

Any obvious problems that have arisen that needed reconciling between FR and Freeport?

For those interested, the first module in the Freeport series, has been released with updated stats for 3.5. Check it out here.

I had a good time with those scenes. I won't give anything away here, but one of the players is playing a god-touched cleric of Shaundakul. Before the final fight he had a dream of placing a throne upon the <location of the final fight> and had the spell stone shape memorized in addition to his normal spells.

At the end of the encounter he built the throne, Shaundakul posessed him, he floated above the harbor, and spoke to freeport explaining what had occurred and that the <location of the final fight> was to be dedicated to Shaundakul and Valkur. The <location of the final fight> is now a monastery jointly dedicated to these two gods of safe travel.

I also had the deity worshipped by the BBEG's be a manifestation of Tiamat ala House Karanok. The party is now engaged in guerilla combat with that family in Chessenta. Later in the campaign Tiamat will have her last laugh by deifying Sammaster and sicking the rejuvinated Cult of the Dragon on the party.

I feel that Freeport would fit in very well in the Dragoncoast area.

I must say I bought the first in the series with low expectations, but these expectations where very quickly challenged.

Modifing these Adventures for higher levels would provide some interesting senarios. Especially in the end temple seen in 'Death in freeport'. In fact translating this series of modules into 2nd Edition sounds Great fun...

Not another Campaign Idea....

Yes, with editing, the first module could be played using characters with higher levels.

No, you don't have to be from Freeport. In fact, the module is set up for players that have just arrived.

I'm curious about where others have placed it in the Inner Sea area. I haven't read the modules, but have been tempted to insert them somewhere. Are the pirate isles the best place?

Also, if the characters were lvl 3 or so, would it be ok to insert them in the first module, if you crank it up a bit? Do the modules require that the players are from Freeport?

You can do it either way. The city of Freeport offers quite a few plot hooks and more than enough to keep your party busy. However, if you intend to run the trilogy you should plan on doing so right away. They are designed for 1st to 2nd level characters to begin them. I recommend 2nd level characters for the three adventures and then beef up opponents as needed.

The modules stand up very well on their own, but the city really comes alive with the City of Freeport and with Denizens of Freeport.

I too have run the Freeport trilogy and can heartily endorse them. They along with the Freeport hardback and the book of npc's are very good. While I own all the other stuff for Freeport, I don't believe I will ever make use of it.

I replaced the Dragonisle in the Sea of Fallen Stars with the 4 islands of Freeport and included the cool stuff from Pirates of the Sea of Fallen Stars that this would have gotten rid of. Sorting out the gods of Freeport is fairly easy, I substituted Oghma for the god of Knowledge, Istishia for the goddess of the Ocean, Tempus for the god of battle, and created another incarnation of Mask for the god of pirates. I dropped a Thayan enclave near the docks.

I don't want to give away any spoilers or anything, but I'll happily give more information to you with regard to how I customized the adventures for the Realms.

Oh, also, I would strongly recommend reading through the adventures several times before running them. While the story-line is very good there are a few sticky spots in the adventures that you may need to modify to make them work well with your group.

Depends on your preference. Freeport: City of Adventure is the tome giving a detailed description of the city. It has a whole chapter devoted to running adventures in the city. However, these are just the standard paragraph blurbs designed to stimulate a DM to design his own adventures from the listed ideas. I think an experienced DM can more than come up with something based upon reading this chapter.

The Freeport trilogy is an ongoing designed adventure that link together in plot. I feel that the opening adventure alone: Death in Freeport gives more than enough back story for a GM to run a Freeport adventure within the Realms. If I recall correctly, I ran the trilogy without having the city sourcebook.

One other important detail. All that I listed above was written using 3.0 rules. I've heard some rumblings about updating Freeport to 3.5. But, I don't think that is going to take place any time soon as Green Ronin is focusing their energy elsewhere on other products.

When I ran the trilogy of adventures, I placed it within the Nelanther Isles. This placement came about due to plot reasons as I wanted Freeport close to the Sword Coast.

I had never ran anything in that area. Thus, I just looked at the FRCS and found no problems in augmenting my world to say that Freeport existed there.

I will say to anyone and everyone who can listen, the Freeport trilogy consisting of: Death in Freeport, Terror in Freeport, & Madness in Freeport represent the best adventures I have encountered in a long time.

I don't feel that the subsequent follow up adventures set within Freeport ever lived up to the fine quality of the above three. Black Sails over Freeport, the newest mega-adventure, was a major disappointment for me.

Still, Freeport stands out as a fine D20 city that can be placed, in my opinion, within the Realms to enrich any gamer's Faerun.
