Posted - 10 Apr 2016 : 20:00:07 Well met all! It's been a long time since I've been here. Starting a new campaign and I have a player who wants to be an archer. However, he also wants to do magic as well. I remember the SPELL ARCHER kit from 2e. I can't find the information on this kit. Any help finding it or information about this kit would be great. Also, here's a unique question. Can a halfling archer use a human short bow as a long bow? Would it be like a daikyu for the halfling? Would that be possible? Any suggestions and information would be helpful. Thanks. |

Posted - 11 Apr 2016 : 06:56:41 The spell archer was described in Dragon #214 as a kit for multiclassed fighter/mage half-elves. I think the elven archer kit from the complete Elves handbook also had some magical abilities.
In 3.0 (and/or 3.5) there was a prestige class arcane archer.
In 2E, you cannot use a weapon 2 sizes larger than yourself: Halfling = small; shortbow = medium (normal use with its shortbow stats), longbow & daikyu = large (unusable by small characters) |

Posted - 10 Apr 2016 : 22:40:52 It depends. Does 2e penalize small-sized characters for using a weapon/armor meant for a larger character? If the mechanics does not penalize him, then I'd rule that it doesn't matter if the Halfling uses a "slightly smaller equivalent of the longbow". Essentially, the Halfie is using a longbow that is slightly resized for his smaller proportion, but it hits and does damage exactly like a Human-sized longbow. |
