Posted - 08 Jan 2016 : 20:00:13 I like the idea of Calimshan being ruled by genies. So I am working on a write up of a Calimshan divided between ruling genies (sort of along the lines of the Spellplague, but not as 'canonically' described, causing those with genie bloodlines to become genasi, etc.)
Where would each subtype of genie rule? Right now I was thinking:
Calimport = Djinni/Air Memnon = Efreeti/Fire Ajhuutal + Almraiven = Marid/Water
I can't seem to find mention of a place ruled by Dao. Was there an area that was? If there wasn't, where would make sense for a power base?
I have not worked out details and am seeking inspiration + ideas from you all |

They've fought each other for thousands of years, and were obviously caught up enough in that battle to be imprisoned by mortal magic... If that wasn't enough to end their fight, mere logic and reason certainly won't.
And while imprisoned they had to endure each other's presence, constantly. Now they are most likely to be really, really fed up with each other - maybe too much to willingly have anything to do at all with the old rival unless absolutely necessary. Since a war requires to constantly pay a lot of attention to the enemy commander, in this way it's obviously much worse than just about any option allowing them to mostly ignore one another. |

I would expect both, myself.
Genies are not fools, sort of by definition. Why would these two genie nobles voluntarily start the war on two fronts?.. Unless they'd limit retaliation against the elves to sending ragtag assassination teams. Which would require them to simultaneously have very much and very little patience.
Then again, first they must rebuild themselves a decent power base, and this delay in itself provides a lot of opportunities for things to set one way or another. For one, the necessity of this stage may require them to reach some truce, even if they'd have to agree on leaving the contested area between their respective territories as "no genie's land" for several centuries. |

The real question is, if Calim and Memnon were to somehow return from their gem prison alive, would they just resume their squabble like nothing have happened - or... try to get at least some vengeance for this little trick first?

Posted - 23 Jan 2016 : 14:53:14 Beware the need to make things symmetrical. It often sounds good in one's head, but not necessarily once you start using it. The idea someone was just proposing about Dao in the underdark sounds interesting though. Throw in some Yak men who are seeking to enslave these dao possibly. Then throw in a link to the feywild and some Fomorians who are also nearby with some cyclopskin servants. Let the Fomorians, Dao, and beholders be in competition, all the while the Dao are also competing with the other genies and seeking slaves. Maybe they've even enslaved some svirneblin for their sacrilege of "enslaving" earth elementals. |

I also wanted surface Calimshan to be divided. I think Keltar makes the most sense as a Earth Genasi / Dao sort of place and maybe Volothamp since its a city of gems with mines beneath it. |

Posted - 09 Jan 2016 : 00:37:20 Yes I read about the Dao in Lost Empires of Faerun
Mapwise, around the Marching Mountains seems like it would make sense for Dao. But there are not settlements there. I was trying to imagine the land roughly divided into four areas (or more?) |
