I have been thinking - as one of my players is a Fetchling - what the Shadowy equivilent of Daggerdale look like. A few things first.
In my campaign i have assumed Fetchlings are 'Half Shades'. Unions between Shades and their Shadovar or Shadar-kai concubines. ( I am running the 3.5 Fluff in Pathfinder in 1372 so the Netherese have not yet had their Shadar-kai conveniant fluff transmutation yet).
Prince Telamont has ruled that no one with a Rank less than Captain may leave the City of Shade to travel abroad - thus - we decided that the Fetchling would be the Bastard son of someone important, who has risen to become a Scout captain in the military.
I gave him an ECL of +1, though in revision if i were to do it again - i would run with ECL +3 as he is strongly begining to remind me of a Shadowy kind of Changeling.
ANYWAY - Currently, the party does not know he is a Fetchling, nor do they know he comes from Thultanthar as he makes excellent use of mundane and magical disguises.
The Campaign is takeing place in Daggerdale. Considering that one can travel 50mph on the plane of shadow, and that there is 130 miles between the city of shade and Daggerfalls, so 2 and a half hours travel with his Fetchling Shadowalk.
Now my question is this - What are the Odds of him encountering something during this Dalliance? Also, considering how it is impossible to gauge distance and direction on the plane of shadow - Is it even useful at all for him as a means of returning to the city of shade??
I had an idea, that he may have a magic item - say - a Hearth brooch - which will alow him to find his way back to the city of Shade while traveling the Shadowfell. It would be free as it serves little other purpose than helping him use the Shadowfell as a means of return. This could suit the high technology of the Netherese.
The other idea is that perhaps a Small outpost exists on the Shadowplane paralell to the city of shade. Given that Things are 'mirrored darkly' on the shadowfell to reality, but the city itself fully Transposed itself from the Plane to Reality - perhaps there is a small trade outpost with a portal leading to the city of Shade, Where the Shadovar trade with Darkones, Shadarkai, Tieflings and the like.
Does Gloomwrought exist in Forgotten realms? If so, Where abouts is it relative to the real world? Ive heard it said that Gloomwrought is the 'Dark twin' of Thultanthar, if so, how could this be given in 1732 the city has only just returned to the material plane?

It's described as a seaport in 4e material and in RAS's books, characters travelled there through a gate from Luskan so it's definitely on the northern Sword Coast on the Shadow Plane somewhere between Luskan and Neverwinter.

Posted - 16 Jan 2014 : 02:25:17 As for the Shadowy equivilent of Daggerdale -
I was thinking Border forest would contain Cross over points between the Feywild and the Shadowfell as Borderforest has a population of fey. I dont think this will come up much however.
Constables tower is my major focus, would the Storm of Wild Magic plagueing it on the prime material flow over into the Shadowfell? If not - I think it would be a great opportunity for the party to be able then to Acess the tower and Do battle with Gothyl the Shadowlich and Reclaim the Sword of the Dales.
