i have a question for you on the Commune spell.

How all knowing do you play the spell. just how much information can your pc get from this spell.

thanks

Even gods of knowledge and lore (such as Oghma and Deneir) are often less than forthcoming about providing simple answers - they aren‘t truly omniscient and they like to encourage their priests to take real initiative in learning stuff for themselves. While they may not lie, they might give cryptic misdirections towards priests who bother them with inconsequentialities. They would also be extremely careful about revealing anything which challenges other deities.

Planars (“people“ and characters native to the planes) in Planescape lore can often see things like Commune and Contact Other Plane coming, and the truly savvy ones usually do everything they can to avoid such annoyingly clueless contacts.

One more example of how modernizing has messed things up. The old description was much clearer than the one that link goes to.

Here you go:

By use of a commune spell, the priest is able to contact his deity--or agents thereof--and request information in the form of questions that can be answered by a simple "yes" or "no." The priest is allowed one such question for every experience level he has attained. The answers given are correct within the limits of the entity's knowledge. "I don't know" is a legitimate answer, as powerful outer planar beings ar not necessarily omniscient. Optionally, the DM may give a single short answer of five words or less. The spell will, at best, provide information to aid character decisions. Entities communed with structure their answers to further their own purposes. It is probable that the DM will limit the use of commune spells to one per adventure, one per week, or even one per month, for the greater powers dislike frequent interruptions. Likewise, if the caster lags, discusses the answers, or goes off to do anything else, the spell immediately ends.

The part removed answers your question, they get one yes or no question per level which may or may not get an answer given the target's knowledge.

You mean that commune? Not much if the PCs don't know what to ask and even then it depends on the deity. There is the unclear answer because deities aren't all knowing and if it's no within their spectrum of knowing or caring.. well why would they know the answer.

If you're unsure if the answer should be giving you can always roll a 1d6 (or d3 if you have one) for yes, no, unclear. :)

Depends on the particular deity the caster is communing with.

Example: If you get an Imp to use its Commune, it may know more matters that are related to infernal knowledge.

A Sharran caster may not get much at all, since Shar does not reveal much being a secretive goddess.
