Posted - 19 Oct 2013 : 02:27:30 I'm about to run this dungeon with my group. I'm concerned about the portal. Is there any clues at all to tip any players off that it's a portal? How about detect magic? I'm placing this dungeon in the High Forest, as part of the old elven kingdom of Earlann (sp?).
When you ran this dungeon where did you have the portal go? This would be a very good way to get my party to Waterdeep as we plan to go there eventually. My fear is the splitting up of the party. Whoever goes in won't probably know where they are and the ones left won't know where the person went. |

Posted - 22 Oct 2013 : 22:44:57 PCs don‘t really have a lot of use for this spell anyhow, unless perhaps they wish to sleep over the 4E Realms timejump.
True, there‘s little chance of another wizard knowing the PCs have this spell unless there‘s evidence of it being cast ... or the PCs otherwise advertise their prize to the world. I‘d think most archmage types who are truly interested in this magic would rather try researching it themselves than employ exotic (sometimes risky) divinations to find someone who already has it.
My PCs traded a copy of this spell for copies of certain high-level PHB spells they were unable to obtain elsewhere. |

Posted - 22 Oct 2013 : 03:35:15 If nobody knows they have it...it shouldn't be a problem. If they realize what the heck they have, they may want to "hand it over" to someone quietly. Certain powerful wizards come to mind... |

I don‘t recall any Elven Crusades in 1E (circa 1356DR), but there isn‘t any requirement to adhere to published calendar events and canon unless you prefer. Especially not in quasi-Pathfinder gaming. Also no requirement to place this Hall in Myth Drannor ... my group encountered it in an abandoned keep somewhere north of Vaasa not long after finishing their first module, the Ruins of Adventure (Pool of Radiance).
Phezult‘s sleep of the ages is a powerful unique spell ... NPC thieves and wizards (friendly and otherwise) might be willing to go to great lengths to acquire this spell from PCs, especially from “weak“ low-level magelings.
Good point about the spell. Don't know what I will do with that. |

I didn't see a time-frame attached for when this adventure is being run. If it's run in 1E or 2E, obviously the City of Song is going to be a less than ideal place to hang out. If the adventure is run in later timeframes, then Myth Drannor won't necessarily be as dangerous.
Just sayin'.
Duly noted. Sorry for the confusion, however the timeframe would be around 1357ish DR. So indeed MD would be a very deadly place and I stick to canon as best i can. For my group, MD is going to be our high-level and the pinnacle of our campaign to come later.
Any suggestions that would be an interesting place for this portal to go for a North/Silver Marches campaign? I'd like it to go the underdark but i think 4th level is a BIT too early. |

It's not another version. It's from the 1E FRCS. Did I have the name wrong or something? I've just taken the module and adapted it to Pathfinder, and placed it in the High Forest as a part of the old elven kingdom of Earlann.
Also forgot to mention this is a small group (3 players) of only 4th level. I don't really want to scatter them across the realms, and Myth Drannor frankly would lead to a quick death. Though your idea is interesting. I kinda want this group to travel to Myth Drannor the hard way across the desert etc.
Myth Drannor wouldn't necessarily be a quick death... If the PCs arrive shortly after the end of the elven Crusade, then the ruins will have been at least somewhat cleansed of random nastybads. You could then have the PCs stay for a while and gain levels by helping reclaim the city, block by block.
Of course, if they arrive years after the Crusade, then Myth Drannor is a populated city again. |

Posted - 19 Oct 2013 : 03:39:44 I just read over this last week, and I decided that I was going to keep the Hall in Myth Drannor...but if you want it in the High Forest, that actually is really neat!
You could have the Portal go to Myth Drannor actually! And near that, you could have a portal to Waterdeep. Give them a "friendly" encounter in the area (a couple devils would be good!) and allow them to then find the portal to Waterdeep nearby...gives you the chance to expand the Hall into a larger dungeon area.
I don't remember ever actually taking but one character through that adventure...the player of Mangar the Merciless. I don't recall what I did with the Portal as it was around 1989 that I ran it I think? |
