Posted - 05 Feb 2012 : 04:37:09 It could be fudged a bit to include lesser denizens, or perhaps the PCs encounter a group of already-wounded denizens who fled from a more powerful group.
Another alternative: while something like a fiendish invasion would bring out the best in some people, it'll bring out the worst in others. Perhaps a would-be thieves' guild, or one of Waterdeep/Undermountain's established groups, or even some group that has opposed the PCs in the past is taking advantage of the chaos, and doing some looting and/or settling personal vendettas while the peacekeepers are distracted. The PCs could wind up fighting them, instead of the more powerful denizens. |

Waterdeep: The Avatar Trilogy Book 3: Pg 289 has Myrkul leading a dozen zombies through the sewers. Pg 294 Mordoc Torsilley (a Captain of the City Guard) describes the outbreak to Blackstaff “Fiends, sir. Hundreds of ‘em, and their number is increasing all the time.” He goes on to describe that the incursion originated in the cavern below Mount Waterdeep.
FRE3 specifies that the Myrkuls Army in Waterdeep in comprised of New Monsters - "Night Rider’s", and "Denizen’s". Denizen’s break down into two groups; "Knights" and "Dukes".

1st Level? IMHO not toe to toe, but perhaps if they could bring down the caverns on top of the Army before they emerge. Or something along those lines.

FRE3 suggests that Myrkul's army was actually composed of fiends from Hades, and not undead like you might expect. He does raise a contingent of night riders - zombie-like armsmen for liches and Myrkul himself, often found with skeletal horses named gaunts.
Myrkul's fiends, called denizens, are former priests of his; they fight with weapons, their knights stout walking things with surprising speed, and then the horrific dukes, which fly and have terrible piecemeal animal faces.
Either way, you don't necessarily need to stick with these - ask yourself what the narrative purpose of Myrkul's forces in your adventure is and follow through from there. Nothing wrong with filling your adventure up with skeletons and lemures if that fits what you want. |

Posted - 01 Feb 2012 : 21:18:40 Its all listed in the Waterdeep module - Fiends (Denizens) attacked the city itself, and something called 'Night Riders' attacked the characters (in Khelben's tower). Those creatures are stated in the accessory. |
