Okay, I might just ramble here, but I'm sitting in a finance class and thinking about a game I'm running tomorrow night.

Campaign (as mentioned in other threads) is currently centered on Hulburg in 1351.

In 1347, the Zhents levelled Hulburg. This was done to grant the ex-Thayan Banite wizard Marcus access to a pool of radiance, which he was able to use to create a pool of darkness. These pools (also present in Phlan, Old Verdigris, and Melvaunt) were used to simultaneously pull them into the Astral Sea and inadvertantly granted instant transportation between them.

When this took place (1350), one of the adventurers responsible for forcing Tyranthraxus from Phlan was amongst the heroes attempting to return the cities to Faerun, married Amali Hulmaster and became Lord Agryl Hulmaster's heir.

Now in 1351 he has come to Hulburg and begun the work of building a city. Encountering a great many undead, they discovered that all undead nearby were under the domain of the Lich King Aesperus. They decided to confront him directly, traveling beneath the city to what they believed to be his lair. Here, several party members were killed by two of his servants. One of the corpses of the slain animated as a zombie and called for diplomacy.

As such, the party has 24 hours to prepare for the actual Aesperus to make an arrival at Daggergard Keep, outside of the ruins.

They have a political advisor who is going to make some recommendations to them, then they have diplomacy checks to make for more ideas, and then there's anything they come up with.

Meanwhile, young Amali, who is eager to please her husband, has been researching all she can about her family's history. She took them to Hammerbold Abbey and showed them the crypts. Unbeknownst to all of them, Agryl looted some of the crypts to provide gifts for his son. As such, Ericon is wearing Aesperus' phylactery on the breastplate of his armor.

They've learned that Rivan is the one who overthrew Aesperus initially. This will probably lead to an investigation of Rivan's tower. From there they can find information on him having drafted a partial copy of Aesperus' necronidex (a spellbook of powerful necromantic spells) and also him having sought out guidance from the temple of the winding way, an ancient monastery. This will hopefully grant them two routes to go if they want to eventually kill Aesperus.

Aesperus, meanwhile, would be happy with a great many things from the party. He'll be seeking restitution in the form of any armor used in the battles beneath Hulburg (this is an attempt to get his phylactery back). He would like to see a myrkulite cultist forced from the area, or killed. He would like to see the barrow fields patrolled. He has some desire to see the Hulmaster line preserved.

He actually is willing to pull the undead from Hulburg (both above and below it). He has ... a lot of undead, though, and some of them are actually structural. If they were to all evacuate, part of the docks section and a large portion of the bay is going to collapse... (which will cause the 4e change in 1351).

So, my sources of info for the area are:
The Moonsea supplement
The Blades of the Moonsea trilogy, by Baker
The King in Copper from Realms of the Dead, by Baker

Anything else out there?

For the records:

There are several Polyhedron articles written by Ed covering the Moonsea North region. Not sure about Hulburg, but Melvaunt and Thentia are mentioned.

What about 3.5e Mysteries of the Moonsea Adventure Supplement, maybe there is some fluff you can use?

In 3.5e Sons of Gruumsh Adventure module some merchant families of Melvaunt are described.

hope this helps.
