Posted - 07 Sep 2011 : 23:32:52 Anyone have or know of a compilation of local Realms events that could be used as adventure hooks? By local, this could mean anywhere in the Realms.
I was reading the scroll What Major NPCs have you used in your Game, and Halidan replied with this in one of his posts:
quote: My most recent completed campaign was a "Robin Hood meets the Realms" campaign using the backdrop of the rebellion of the Daggerdale Freedom Fighters against the Zhents.
This comment made me wonder how many similar local events, like the Daggerdale Freedom Fighters rebelling against the Zhents there might be, and whether anyone has ever compiled a list of possible hooks such as this that could be expanded upon. I find it's often these types of comments that inspire me and fires my imagination the most. |

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 13:47:39 I always loved the "Recent News and Rumours in the Realms" section from the DM's Sourcebook of the Realms from the Old Grey Boxed set.
There were so many events and occurrences (some of which would be expanded upon, others were left as hooks) that could add real flavour to a region/locale if they were to hear it in an Inn or Tavern.
I especially liked this scroll that Saer Cormaeril started, called Wagon Clack!

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 11:47:47 Am not aware about a single source of local events, from ym experience it depends vastly from the year you are playing in and the region the charakters travel through.
What I normally do is to put together one or two pages of News/Romours each time the party arrive in another location (i.e. they travel from Shadowdale to Tilverton, I will hand them out or roleplay through this news/rumors sheets about Tilverton, Stonelands, Dales, or Cormyr related events the character eventually overhear on the streets or inns or taverns or NPCs)
This "local events for this season" I collect from the various canon sources I have available for the reqion in question (Supplemets, Articles, Adventure Modules)and add news about my own plots to it. This way I get a nice mixture and my players gets an impression how colourfull life in the realms actually is

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 10:50:02 FRCS has many local adventure hooks in chapter about Geography. Most of the realms have one or two at the end of their descriptions. |

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 05:12:08 You might want to peruse the various Realms-chronological references and links I suggested in this scroll. Another valuable resource, albeit an imperfect one, is the FR Wiki ... simply submit a particular year to the search genie (like 1357 or 1372) to view a summarized list of links to all relevant entries recorded within the wiki.
The various Wizards archives and REALMS-L archives contain limitless quantities (and varying qualities) of Realmslore; these are all rather haphazardly disorganized and filled with volumes upon volumes of non-canonized suggestions, speculations, arguments, crunch, and fluff. Not to mention numerous libraries like Candlekeep* scattered throughout the ether, and the even more numerous offerings shared by the more learned and industrious of their individual members.
* Incidentally, did you notice Alaundo's rather sizable library, alongside many other invaluable works presented by other scribes, all strategically (or absent-mindedly) scattered about every ready surface in Candlekeep's narthex? Much better than the shoddy newsprints, periodicals, and coffee table books most other institutions offer to their idle visitors. Plus the stuffy old chairs might look rather old fashioned but they're wantonly comfortable.
You might find more pertinent information if you constrained your search parameters to specific places and times; mastering all available Realmslore can take a lifetime. |

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 03:40:49 No, not every possible event, as that would be impossible. I was thinking more like if anyone had ever created lists of Realms specific events and bare bones adventure hooks. Generic enough to be placed anywhere in the Realms as well as specific location hooks. Grand History of the Realms is a good start. |

Posted - 08 Sep 2011 : 00:14:29 Not entirely sure what you're looking for, you make it sound like you're asking for a list of every localised event that has ever taken place in the Realms, and that's a rather impossible task. Are you looking for events with a specific theme or taking place in a specific area of Faerun? |
