Posted - 28 Jun 2011 : 16:42:03 This is my first time Dming since or last Dm was the most illiterate Dm ever which is not a good thing(our first encounter was against goblins with the stats of clay golems). So i am going to be the new Dm for a 1e campaign(might have been 3e if i had a Dm book). But anyways does anyone have any ideas for my campaign as i am totally clueless and all my freinds are even more clueless than me. Thanks! |

Posted - 30 Jun 2011 : 17:57:00 I'd also include the Treasure Hunt module since it takes place within the Korinn Archipelago, which was added to the Moonshaes. |

Posted - 30 Jun 2011 : 11:14:23 Kane as others have said there are older edition resources on the net, some fan created and some published for free (now) by companies. I'll second the Dragonsfoot material as most of it is excellent.
In my experience it is easy to convert 2nd edition resources to first edition that it is 3.x edition as the transition from 1E to 2E was not as dramatic as the transition from 2E to 3E.
There are lots of 'retro-clones' out there that capture the feel and gameplay of the earlier editions but using the OGL/SRD. I would highly recommend Castles and Crusades from Troll Lord Games if you want a modern take on 1E.
There is a list of free modules here http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.com/2011/06/all-of-free-adventures.html?zx=89a0b6324651bcda
you do get an age warning for this blog, but there is no adult only content on that page
have fun and get your friends round playing

Well Fr only had a few offers for first Edition, submissions printed by TSR magazines. FR got its big start in 2nd Edition. There are downloads available of some 2nd Edition material, though harder to find these days on the WotC site..
The Old Grey Box was 1E, and some of the earlier FR-series of sourcebooks were, as well.
Well the white/grey box tends to be more 0 Edition then 1st. What I stated should still remain true, which is very little Forgotten Realms material was written for First Edition.
I clearly an open to news of a Forgotten Realm source book for 1st Edition that I might have missed. |

Posted - 28 Jun 2011 : 18:00:06 kane SRD = System Resource Document http://www.d20srd.org/ is one source of it. The information is Open Gaming License so all are free to use the provided material. I could with digging find a few more links, however 3rd Edition went though a few changes, this site appears to be one of the best.
Converting from 1st to third clearly a bookkeeping matter, but also added is change of classes.
A 1st edition Bard, if permitted by DM, is not the same as a third Edition Bard.
If you have the core books and a good understanding of gaming translating from editions should not be too difficult.
OTOH I have the 1st Edition Core books and have well read them. I and I suspect others might be able to provide advice for gaming in 1st Edition.
In the end the DM rules, rule badly lose player, rule in such a way that all the players, including yourself, have fun. This tends to be the best way to go, some DMs report games lasting over 20 years. |

-Basically, most of the 3e rules are online, for free. |

Posted - 28 Jun 2011 : 17:30:53 What does SRD mean? also what do you mean by expansion? |

Posted - 28 Jun 2011 : 17:24:14 *Blink* Nothing wrong with doing 1st in some ways, hower there were reasons for change.
3rd ED provides the SRD that certainly could result in translation without too many problems. This of course infers that characters are low level. Not sure why in 1st, lawn sale? Do you have even expansion books to that edition? We, or at least I, need more information before better advice can be provided. There might still be even 1st Edition modules assessable from WotC website, though hard to find. |

Posted - 28 Jun 2011 : 17:00:28 You'd better start with some pre-written If you want to play 1E you can take a look here http://www.dragonsfoot.org/fe/#FEAD13 There is also much Forgotten Realms stuff available for that periode It should not be a big problem to convert these adventures for any setting |
