I was just looking over the map for the Sembia area, and the village of Scardale caught my eye...

I mean, it is mapped as a village...but the only map I have of Scardale is a VERY LARGE town...more akin to a City.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I mean, what constitutes a village...and why after the surge of Lashan of Scardale, is it mapped as a village...but then seems to be much more on any maps I've seen of it (most dating from the time of the Avatar Crisis)?

No.

Traveler.

Anyway, my whole point was that maps change with time, and sometimes quite quickly. For the longest time most 'official' maps were created by Cormyr's Royal Cartography Society, and were only occasionally updated, and usually only when changes within Cormyr itself warranted.

AFTER the ToT, there were many changes to the maps (The Helmlands?), and the maps were updated, including representing the growth of any settlements (and a smattering of settlements - like 'lost Dales' - were removed).

NOT entirely canon, but it is the easiest conclusion to draw (literally) in this case. Maps change, and most folks are only aware of the changes to settlements near them, hence the 'surprising' speed at which Scardale changed (which didn't happen nearly as fast as is presumed, like I said - people were just unaware of what was happening for a couple of decades).

Without a doubt.

Post-Avatar is also post-Lashan, and when new maps were made (after all, the gods changed the world!), these newer maps reflected any changes that had occurred (I figure the 'old maps' were from some theoretical pre-1e period).

In fact, by 2765 DR, Scardale has become a Tech9 Starport, catering to intersteller trade, and also a great place to bring your insane (because of the nearby Shadowdale Mental Facility).

For a short time it was known as the Shadowdale Mentally Unhinged Rehabilatation Facility... but people couldn't get past the initials....

yer daft!

You know what I mean you wily coyote!

That Scardale seems to have only been a village before the Avatar Crisis...and suddenly it was a small city!
