Well Again!

The wizard, Prespos, returns home for a quick note
(I'm living over at the http://www.dragonsfoot.org site for a few years more) ....

Here is a thread that may be of interest to some :

The Forgotten Realms as a 1E Setting

I'd love to see that one. What I loved about VF was, that it contained micropscopic lore from the novels. It was often the first place for me to start my preperations.

I think the idea of a FR FRP system is a great one.
To get it totally in line with what's in the novels (yep, I indexed those, too), and the rest of the canon lore.
You see, with that, Realmslore would 'trump' (A)D&D rules.

Matter of fact, you can have great sessions without rules: pure interactive storytelling, if you find the right people.

I hope I can post my version, soon. Indeed if you read lore closely you even get ideas, for new cool rules.

One example: My magic system (spell point based) allows a caster (mage for example) to weave spells (within limits). So there is no single effect per spell, but a number of related effects you can combine, depending on how much points you spend and how experienced you are.
place for me to start my preperations.

With FR1E, what I'm thinking of is along the lines of world creation.
I've already written that I want to include all of the 1E Dragon articles in that, as well,
finding some way to map Faerun down to the 1 mile square.
(I'm really into the Wilderness Survival Guide, that level of detail.)
My idea is that 1E rules would 'trump' Realmslore, but that's just my take on things (consider it an alternate plane).

I look very much forward to this projects, also your UA tabletop conversion

Regarding UNLIMITED ADVENTURES, that was a computer game back from the 1990s (same system as the GOLD BOX games, like Pools of Radiance).

I've found that the system (trimmed-down AD&D) works quite well.
For actual gaming,

less rules = more people
less rules = more places
less rules = more plot

I approach UA from the perspective of an adventure game, but one could use that in a role-playing sense, as well, I guess.

Again, the FR1E thing is more about world creation (in the sense of the detailing of things) : of course, Ed has already created the structure that has brought magic to the lives of thousands of people!

Anyway, I'd love to see the decompiled C code for the 576K ckit.exe file translated into C++ ... in other words, to see UNLIMITED ADVENTURES resurrected.

There was Dungeon Craft, but there was too much emphasis on the graphics there, IMHO. The original DOS look worked fine.

It would be a great thing to see UA brought back pretty much as is, but extensible so that one could explore all of Faerun with it, not just one overland map.

Sweet Water & Light Laughter,
Prespos

Brix, that's great news that you have a copy of Virtual Fantasy.

You can put it online if you want, but so many of the links would be broken.

No one has seen the 'full' (not complete) version of it yet -- it's been gathering dust for years -- much bigger.
I started to index canon lore, to give it some kind of a structure,
then went on to working with 1E materials for a few years (I'm still working on .html versions of the original handbooks).

I think the idea of a FR FRP system is a great one.

Some might not be familiar with DANGEROUS JOURNEYS, an RPG by Gary Gygax, but with that one, specifically the MYTHUS subsystem,
he took the approach of integrating the system with the setting (Aerth). It worked quite well.

Prespos

ps.
Hi froggleg!

ps2.
Another thing I've been working on is a tabletop version of UNLIMITED ADVENTURES. I'll detail that in the next post.

Basically, there is a threat on candlekeep that deals with the possibility of a dedicated Forgotten Realms roleplaying game, based on Ed original campaigns.
Whatever, the consens seems to be that most people agree on a rules light d20 based game, minus feats, with a good skill system. Am tinkering with that idea a lot. But next to that I'm also interessted in retro games.

Good that you are back. I have an offline version of your site, and still use it as a reference from time to time
