Got a 3.5 question involving a Cleric with the Craft Wondrous Item feat... It occurred to me that many existing wondrous items require the ability to cast Arcane spells, not Divine spells.

Is there a ruling somewhere that would allow a Cleric (specifically, a Cleric of Gond) to substitute similar Divine spells in place of the required Arcane ones when crafting a wondrous item? Or is there another way around this that would save the Cleric from having to take levels as a wizard?

If neither, are their any opinions about it? Just looking for some thoughts on the matter...

Thematically, it's important to my player for her character to remain a cleric, but i don't want her to feel cheated out of making certain items because she cannot cast arcane spells. Seems like if any crafter of wondrous items could be allowed such a pass, it would be a cleric of Gond, don't you think?

Thanks!

p.s. If there is an obvious answer to this that i have managed to overlook, i apologize ahead of time for being a doofus (never had any experience with this feat), and i thank you for taking the time to point it out to me.

I'm not sure what domains you've chosen, but if you've chosen the Craft Domain you could ask your DM to allow you to change the Granted power from:

"You cast creation spells at +1 caster level and gain Skill Focus (a +3 bonus) in the Craft skill of your choice as a bonus feat"

to

"You add Use Magic Device to your skill list. In additoin, you can create a magic item even if you do not have access to the spell's that are prerequisites for the item. You must make a successful Use Magic Device check (DC 20 + caster level) to emulate each spell normally required to create the item. Thus, to make a 1st-level wand of magic missile, you would need a Use Magic Device check result of 21 or higher. You must make a successful check for each prerequisite for each item you make. If you fail a check, you may try again each day unitl the item is complete. If you come to the end of the crafting time and has still not successfully emulated one of the powers, you can make one final check-a last ditch effort, even if you have already made a check that day. If that check also fails, then the creation process fails and the time, money, and XP expended to craft the item are lost."
