Posted - 25 Sep 2010 : 16:47:22 Ok i admit it my DM creating mana is low right now :-)
So, in the last session one of my players, a Dwarven Defender aquired a couple of usefull magic items. We were trying to find a name for each of them, perhaps something in Dwarven with a meaning or such. Im not asking for stats or anything like that, we are more into lore and story
Okies, the first and most important item is an set of full plate armour made from the scales of a creature named Harrowdroth (its a creature of my own making, perhaps i got the inspiration from somewhere else)
Imagine that Harrowdroth as a smaller cousin of tarrasque. It was a blessed creature of Malar, for it was a superb hunter. Not superb enough thought for it was slain by the party :-P m the dwarf lost his eye in the process
The scales were forged together with truesilver by a runesmith, with the ways of the Long lost Ammarindar (My dwarf claims heritage from there) , the item was forged in an anvil who serves also as a shrine to Moradin
The second item is an Adamantine two handed hammer with the symbol of Moradin on it. It served as a key to a sealed Dwarven Tomb. It supposed to be forged in the legendary furnace of Ammarindar.
Any inspiration? Any ideas? Thanks for reading! |

Posted - 27 Sep 2010 : 03:41:59 As far as the armor is concerned, here are my Common tongue ideas aside from what has been posted already: - Harrowbane - Harrowshide - Harrowskin - Harrowsarmor
If you're looking for something more in Dwarven, here are my roughly translated ideas, thanks to pages 10 through 12 of Dwarves Deep: - Harrowdrothalaur (Harrowdroth's gift; note: full word for gift is halaur) - Harrowdrotharglary (butchered Harrowdroth) - Harrowdrothbarak (Harrowdroth's backbone/strength/shield) - Harrowdrothxunder (Harrowdroth's secret)
As far as the hammer's concerned, I'd call it something along the lines of these.
Common: - Moradin's Finger - Path to Honor - Oath of Honor - Dwarfheart
Dwarven: - Ilithxunder (literally: "Honored secrets") - Halaurxunder ("Gift of secrets") - Caurakxunder ("Underground cave secret") - Endarxunder ("Overground cave secret")
Granted, I'm not too sure about Dwarven sentence structure, so please, bare with me. |

Posted - 25 Sep 2010 : 21:13:38 If you need some lore for the hammer, since it was forged in Ammarindar and served as a key, it could actually possess a piece of Moradin's Soul Forge (the birthplace of dwarves). This could have been both a reward from Moradin to his children and/or because of the importance of the tomb. As time passes, the full powers of the hammer fell into slumber. Perhaps the PCs haven't figure out all of its powers. Then again, Icould just be rambling... |

SilverHarrow
and for the hammer
Key of Moradin |

Posted - 25 Sep 2010 : 19:11:58 Harrowsgard for the armor? I figure 'gard' sounds like both 'gaurd' and 'garb'.
TombReaver or TombRender for the Hammer? "Moradin's key" is a bit too literal, I'm thinking, but if you used the name of whatever dwarven lord wielded it?
Or, if you wanted it to have an even deeper connections to the dead through its 'opening of tombs' ability, perhaps something like Soulseeker?
