I have a little question about drow priestesses. I know that they start their clerical training after their 40-th birthday but do they learn to get their 1-st Cleric level, or do they just advance further (for example 5-th level and beyond)? |

ALL drow NPC (in my game) begin as Rogue. This is the "training" they learn in the early years of life (1-10) where they see deception, assassination, intreague and murder just to SURVIVE childhood to begin a career. Males typically then Join the School of Melee and become Warriors for their houses (Fighters) or Scouts (Rangers) or the School of Magic (to become Wizards Sorcerers or Warlocks).
Females generally become Clerics (though a rare still take a few a levels as Wizards and bards) and remain in "School" until level seven, then they return to their houses to begin their schemes and lives. So depending upon WHEN your encountering drow (and which ones) you'll almost never see a "level one" unless your stalking children in the streets.
Males Soldier (level of Rogue, Fighter, Fighter)
Male Scout (Rogue, Fighter, Ranger)
Male Wizard (Rogue, Spellcaster, Spellcaster, x?)
and so on. |

I'd have to go with advancing to maybe 5th lvl in the Academy. Unless they want to become a high priestess, in which case they would advance further (and probably stay longer). |

Well, I guess they have to learn to get their first level. But based on what I've read (Daughter of the Drow, WotSQ book I, DDGtU, Drow of the Underdark, Menzo boxed set) - all of those seem to point to the conclusion that all initiates in Arach-Tinilith or similar institution are at least 1st-level clerics.
So they gain 1st level earlier and just advance at the academy. I'd guess they gained the 1st level at their native House (homeschooling by their more experienced relatives).
Is that related to Vierna?  |

They start training at that age to get their 1st level, however it is very possible they remain in schooling until they achieve 5th level a few years latter.
The general game base is all characters start at having completed training for their 1st level. The rules then require the characters to earn experience points, they can do so while still attending school. Think Harry Potter, he was a Wizard of untrained stills before he went to school, he could do a few things, compared to what he can do now after attending school a few years. The same basic principal applies to Cleric advancement (or any class advancement) in D&D. |

I'd think you would have to take in effect the fact that they mature rather slower than humans IIRC. And I'd take it to think that their first couple of years as a Neophyte would roughly be the beginning stages of their class (lvls 1 - 3 possibly). As they gain higher level spells (3rd to 5th) then i'd say they'd be a full priestess. |
