Hello folks, I am restarting my Forgotten Realms Campaign using the Pathfinder rules. I was formerly running adventures in Golarion, but I decided I am jsut really into running the realms more.

First step: Fix the spell plague. This is how I did it, and feel free to input and criticize as need be!

Many thanks!

The Second Time of Troubles

The Time of Troubles was precipitated by an attempt by the gods Bane and Myrkul to steal the Tablets of Fate from the overdeity Ao. Angry at the gods for their habitual pursuit of power and negligence toward their mortal faithful,[2] Lord Ao relegated every god (except for the guardian god Helm, selected to protect the gates to the heavens) to walk among their followers on the earth.

The second time of troubles started with an attempted assassination and ended with an attempted assassination. In the year 1375DR followers of the god Vhaeraun used elven High Magic to open a portal to the realm of Eilistraee, which the Masked Lord took advantage of, and attempted to assassinate his sister. Eilistraee turned the tables, and instead killed Vhaerun, absorbing all of his worshipers and redeeming their souls.

The end of this second time of troubles occurred in 1385DR the Year of Blue Fire. Cyric attempted an assassination upon the Goddess of Magic Mystra, but Mask who tricked Shar into beleiving she absorbed his essence, betrayed Cyric and Shar, alerting Bane to the plot.

Bane is no friend of Mystra but his hatred of Cyric is legendary even for divinity. He made a temporary alliance with Tyr, and with the help of Sune and Shaundakul planned a foil for Cyric. Bane suspected that if Cyric were to kill Mystra, he might absorb the divinity of the Goddess of Magic, and this would grant Cyric the power he needed to defeat Bane. Bane put his divine pride aside for a moment and allied with Tyr.

Cyric entered Dwoemerheart, intent on killing Mystra. Tyr, Bane, Sune, Lathander, and Shaundakul were in Dweomerheart laying in ambush, but ready for treachery on the part of Mask. Mask's treachery never manifested.

Tyr defended Mystra from Cyrics blade, and Bane attacked Cyric long enough for Shaundakul to teleport Mystra to safety. At this point Bane attempted to destroy Cyric, and Tyr intervened to stop him. Bane and Tyr battled as Sune and Lathander tried to apprehended Cyric. In a last act of defiance, Cyric released his divinity and destroyed Dweomerheart, hoping to kill the four deities in the process. The four Deities were thrown into the Astral Plane, but the new God of the Hunt, Torandar Giantsbane was able to locate them for Shaundakul, and the deity of Portals rescued their unconscious essences. It is widely beleived that Sune's greatest role in the rescue was seduction of Shaundakul.

Though Dweomerheart was utterly destroyed, Mystra was saved, but every other Deity that called Dweomerheart home was destroyed.

Yeah Dalor that would have been cool! I am kind of attached to this version right now, but I will have to see where I can throw Kelemvor in there.

I don't think Kelemvor would stop Bane from stomping on Cyric except to stomp on Cyric himself.

That would be so funny seeing Kelemvor just stomping away with an oh so big smile.

Now that's the god who'll slay Cyric with pleasure.

An interesting idea. I'm not sure how I feel about Bane forming an alliance with Tyr, however. Something about it just doesn't sit well with me. I can easily see Bane forming an alliance against Cyric, but I think he'd choose someone else to work with. Lathander is a definate candidate. After all of Lathander's past mistakes, Bane would probably view him as a patsy that he could manipulate.

As for deific firepower, I think that Bane would be more likely invite Helm - who in his role as God of Gaurdians and Protectors would be just as interested in stopping Cyric as Tyr would...

As for Bane fighting Tyr in order to destroy Cyric, Helm could still fill that role as well, especially since Helm would probably want Cyric to answer to Ao for attempted murder of a divine being...

I agree. Tyr might not be a good choice for Bane.

But nice work, Mournblade!

Fair enough. I ignored Helm's death the moment I read about it - but since my campaign in currently in 1345DR, it will be a long time before I have to worry about it.

Thank you halidan, I too had trouble with tyr, and I struggled with it for a bit. I did keep the Canon of helm dying, so helm was out. My biggest problem was actually the other way around; tyr working with bane.

After working with it a bit I figured tyr/bane would be the best:

1. They are both lawful
2. Tyr is more likely to get organized help on their side. For example in adventures and lore it has always seemed tyr and sine were strong allies.
3. I think tyr would ally, but have a plan to reverse stakes if bane lead him into a trap.
4. Tyr trusts his own competence above a others.
5. I agree with you on helm, but I kept the challenge as Canon. Tyr wants to redeem himself for that.

Thanks for your input, as it is much appreciated.

This might also help Helm feel better about having destroyed Mystra's last incarnation during the first ToT.

As for Bane fighting Tyr in order to destroy Cyric, Helm could still fill that role as well, especially since Helm would probably want Cyric to answer to Ao for attempted murder of a divine being.

Just some thoughts

In what book did the conflict between Eilistraee and Lolth take place. I am searching through my library and cannot remember, though I fully intend to make Eilistraee survive.

Thank you all for the compliments:)

Very nice, but one question- how did you resolve the other little bit with Eilistraee and Lolth? Did you let it stand as in the novels? Or did you change anything there? Just curious.

Nicely done...

Lovely story, just as the one with Mask. Keep it up!

Many thanks for the compliment froggleg. And I agree. I searched through my realms lore tonight about Ao and I do beleive he would let things stand.

Ao letting things stand seems like what he would do.

Interesting. Did you determine how Ao responded to the events of the Second Time of Troubles?
Mournblade Posted - 22 Jul 2010 : 21:41:14
oops. Completely non canon material would be Torandar. He is a follower of Mielikki that eventually ascended and hunted Malar. That part is only incidental and really meant for people that actively play in the campaign.
