Would you say that knowledge about ancient spell and ancient items would fall under a special category or would it fall under knowledge arcane???

there could also be a case for items falling under knowledge history. In 3.5 there are no 'extra' knowledges, as there were in 3.0; everything is covered somewhere in the official knowledges.
