Hey i just need to know what the distance from Icewind dale to Baldurs gate is and as the crow flies and about how long it would take by horse (to luskan) and then by ship (from luskan to baldurs gate) |

I agree. Saved me much coin when I was grabbing up Realmslore PDF's.
Then I go and buy most of them from Nobleknight anyway. |

The problem with using straightline distances for sea travel in the Realms is that most of the ships in the Realms lack the technology and sailing experience to move out of sight of land.
In both the Realms and the real world, ships like rakers and cogs were costal vessals. It would take exceptional ship with a highly trained (and slightly crazed) CREW - like Captain Baldur's to sail out of sight of land using only the stars and a sextant (at night) or the sun and a sextant during the day.
Thus Enteri's time of 11 days is probably about right at least for the average voyage. IIRC, he took the first available ship heading south, not caring about the quality of the captain or crew. Deudermont's ship seemed both better trained and better led. It would have been move out of sight of the shore and quicken the voyage.

make sure you take ice, snow and other conditions that may play a role in that travel into account considering the part of the world you are traveling in. |

Ah, here it is, p. 64 of the Forgotten Realms Atlas. It seems that Enteri's ship took 11 days to get from Waterdeep to Baldur's Gate (19-30 Flamerule), and that Deudermont's ship can do it faster - 7 days (leave Waterdeep late at night on 29 Flamerule, arrive on the morning of 6 Elesias).
The times seem to be relatively high, given the distances covered (in straight line, the distance from Luskan to Waterdeep is about the same as from Waterdeep to Baldur's Gate). I'd use the same times as for Luskan to Waterdeep, and add a half day (the distance is slightly greater, and entering Baldur's Gate require sailing up the Chiontar river, against the flow). |

Quick measurement through the Distance tool in the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas: Depending on where you start out in Icewild Dale, straigth-line distance is around 1,200 miles.
According to the same source, riding distance from Ten-Towns to Luskan, along the Ten Trail and the Northern Means, through Hundelstone, is around 185 miles.
FR5-The Savage Frontier (rather than Volo's Guide to the North, I think, puts the travel time from Waterdeep to Luskan to: R-2.5 days (using a raker), 2 days (longship), 3.5 days (cog), or 7.5 days (heavy cog). No travel time is given from Waterdeep to Baldur's Gate, but I do remember that Karen Wynn Fonsted's Atlas of the Forgotten Realms contains a day-by-day breakdown of the Icewind Dale trilogy, which involves two journeys from Waterdeep to Baldur's Gate. I'll check it when I get back to homebase next week. |
