Hello all,
I've been looking for a potential setting for a pbp campaign I'd like to run in the Forgotten Realms (pre spellplague) and have settled on Damara. It's off the beaten track, has the staple requirements of quiescent threats/slumbering evil and looks, well, just right for what I'm after. The problem is, I'm finding getting any hard info about the region fairly difficult.
I know there was an old DnD campaign pack retconed specifically for Damara back in the '80s, but I can't seem to track it down. Can anyone share any useful nuggets of info about the region? Are there any adventure seeds lurking in the shadows just waiting to be exploited? The campaign in question will probably be focused solely in Damara and start around 1376 DR, all other details are up in the air.

RAS's last novel Road of the Patriarch ended in the winter 1368-1369.
But the lorebook FR9 The Bloodstone Lands, provided a whole lot of different ongoing scenarios, characters, tidbits, etc., that very well should have continued long past ROTP. In fact, RAS tried to incorporate a few of those juicy ideas into his novels that were set in the region, but there are still a ton of unexplored opportunities, there, waiting for you.  |

Blimey! Thank you one and all, a running list of material to track down is exactly what I'm after! I've always been a bit of stickler for canon source material; I'm not necessarily a purist when it comes to using those facts, but I like to have them at my disposal, shaping them into something I like the look of. If Damara is relatively untrammelled then that's good, it gives me the opportunity to wield the brutal cudgel of my own creative licence over the region without fear of flying in the face of established source. Bloodstone seems something of a mother lode when it comes to Damara, staple reading if I want to run a realms game there.
@ Kuje: At the risk of sounding heretical, I've always passed over RAS's work when it comes to realms novels. Do you know what books he has set in Damara?
@ Brian: I shall hunt it down post haste, fantastic to know.
@ Thauramath: sublime news, I may well have found the holy grail I've been searching for! I'll look it up right away.
Damara's always struck me as the one place I'd like to explore but never have. It's something of a fringe setting that never had its turn in the spot light. Hoopefully I can do it justice.

Have you checked the Northern Journey Project? One of the Netbooks for that project (which can be downloaded at our very own Candlekeep, at the Northern Journey Homepage) is a 500+ page PDF on Damara(Part 7, Book 2, to be precise). And there's a 300+ page PDF on Vaasa (Part 7, Book 3).
It's not canon, but it incorporates a lot of canon information and expands a lot of it. |

For information on Impiltur and the Giantspires, Champions of Ruin/Champions of Valor are great. For info on the Great Dale, you'll want to peruse Unapproachable East. I'm currently running a (2 year long) campaign in Damara, and it really is a great place to run a game for all the reasons you listed. |

If you love Damara, you'll definately want to read 'Promise of the Witch-King' and it's sequel Humble_Tormtar. Bob is quite faithful to the old FR9 source material on the Bloodstone Lands (because well, he wrote it!) in these novels. I recently finished an article on Vaasa for DDI, and it was great fun revisiting this mostly neglected region of the Realms. |

Ras has a novel or two set there as well, plus some of the events in the Dragon Rage trilogy involves Damara. |
