I know, Ed gave us a detailed discription of ithe location of the Firefall Vale and its Keep of the same name in Stormlight and in one of his replies:

To quote:
"in the district of Northtrees March, hard against the Thunder Peaks and the northern edge of Hullack Forest"

However, I still have difficulties placing it correctly. Please help me in placing Firfall Vale on the map of Cormyr correctly, would you?

To start on the same ground, here is a link to a map of Cormyr to work with (btw I am still wistfully waiting for Markusthay's map of the area! ): Map of Cormyr.

So, where on this map would you place Firefall Vale? North of the East way? And close to the Falls of Tumbling Stars Or south of it? Or is it located where the map shows a "Firehammer Keep"?

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

I surmised Castle Stone was also in that same area. (from the story A matter of Thorns in the Realms of Infamy anthology).

On this map, I would place that semi-autonomous keep/village in the valley/vale between Halfhap and Tilveron, near that river that runs along that road (Moonsea Ride). That entire 'hollow' just west of the 'T' in Twin Peaks would be considered 'Stone Demesne', but in truth very little beyond the keep and tiny village was actually 'controlled'.

On the newest map, it would be located near the Falls of Tumbling Stairs, on the other side of the mountains from Tower Tranquil. Its supposed to be on a spur of the Immerflow, so the changes to the map caused it to move quite a bit. Either location works perfectly, though.

Hombrew
Over the years many groups tried to take Castle Stone to use as a launching-point for attacks against Cormyr, but Harper agents keep close tabs on the place (unbeknowst to the inhabitants), and often set 'evil types' against one-another (Zhents vs Red Wizards, Eldreth Veluuthra vs Sembian agents, etc). Some say the old Keep had 'ancient magics' protecting it, but these were mere rumors (probably spread by the Harpers, who had a least one agent of their own within the Keep).

Immediately following Mystra's fall, A Shade mage attacked the Keep, killing everyone within, and took it for himself. His intent was to replace the local villagers with his own people, and use it as a base against Cormyr... but then something happened. Today the town is a ruin, overrun with ghouls and other fell creatures, and no-one goes near the keep, because no-one ever returns. Some feel whatever magic the place once held was twisted by the Spellplague, and something even worse then the Shades now resides there.

So is your favorite fell, or fire? Or maybe even fave?

Tricky one this as the map has changed from earlier editions (The road didn't divert so far north, it seemed to plough directly through the Hullack into the Thunderpeaks) and on those maps I know exactly where Firefall Vale is and the lands around as my current game is based in exactly this area of Cormyr.

This is what I would do given what we know and using the modern map:

Galdyns Gorge is the big clue as it is in the Immerflow gorge and south of the Vale. I would consider Galdyns Gorge to be where the Immerflow starts to flow west and leave the two sets of hills either side of the river to form the northern border of the Hullack, (This is Yellander Land)

So follow the Hullack trail where it exits out of the forest and begins to cross the Immerflow, directly to the east of this crossing is a hill. Go directly up from the 'M' in the Realm of Wailing Fog and where the hill meets the Immerflow and the road which crosses the river place Firefall Vale there; ("hard against the Thunderpeaks, northern edge of the Hullack Forest") We need to assume that the Hills are covered in trees and are part of the Hullack.

The Hills directly opposite this to the west/north west across the Immerflow would be the lands of the Hawkhar family.

The Realms of Wailing Fog is marked by the X underneath the name, so far enough away not to be a direct threat but close enough that it might be a threat........

Hope this helps

Cheers

This is an old thread but I have somewhat of a related question....

The original map link on this thread doesn't work any longer, but I have the most recent Cormyr map from
http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drback/20080718

Any opinions on where Firefall Vale is in relation to the 'Realm of the Wailing Fog' marked on the map? I'm starting a game in Thunderstone and trying to get an idea of what is in Eastern region.

Thanks! :)

Based on the description and this map, I'd put it just north of the Hullack Forest. Past the Wanton Wyvern Inn there is a fork in the road, I'm thinking it should go at the end of the southern most path.

I found part of the answer in Ed's post from May 2004. There he says:

"The nearest neighboring noble holdings [to Firefall Keep] are Hawkhar to the northwest (high rolling hills where fine horses are bred and reared for sale) held by House Indesm, and Galdyn’s Gorge, south along the Immerflow (known for its gorge-side caverns where mushrooms are grown, gems mined, and vralo, a VERY strong-flavored mushroom wine, is made), home of House Yellander."

I highlighted the important information in bold. Following from this information Firefall Keep has to be somewhat near the Immerflow. Therefore, the "Firehammer Keep" we find on the map is some other place but mos certainly not the Firefall Keep I am trying to place.
Acourding to the information, I would place the Keep round-about at the same degree of latitude as the 'Wanton Wyvern Inn' but further to the north-east, roughly at the degree of longitute of Thunderstone, so quite close to the Fall of Tumbling Stars.

So much to that.
