-SPOILER-
So, the book has this whole subplot regarding the Pool of Radiance and how Tyranthraxus needs Ioun Stones to power it. Mind you, almost every monster in the adventure drops a ioun stone. There is, in fact, a monster who gives out free ioun stones, just because you have a profession.
So, trying to reconcile these discrepancies - I came up with Ioun Crystals. For my puposes, I simply mimiced the stat based ones, and have them grant +4 to one stat AND +10 to that like-kind stat 1/day. In total, I have six placed in Phlan. When they strike metal, each one nearby vibrates.
I placed two inside Ren's daggers (in my continuity, Shal, Tarl, and Ren existed, but were each assassinated). The rogue in the party has the daggers (dex, str), but does not know abut the crystals.
They accidentally discovered one in the bell in Nat Wyler's bell. Its vibration was keyed by the rogue defending himself. The bell would resound each time he scored a hit. The crack in the bell (because bells NEED cracks) became exascerbated by the vibration. A soundburst targeted on the bell, by the cleric, shattered the bell. When they later tried to mend it, the found the crystal.
I might place the fourth one in Yarash's equipment. The other two will likely be in place in their receptacles on the pool, itself. |

Added Denlor's tower to the adventure on the fly last night. Used the map from FR Atlas and the room descriptions for my etext of the novel.
Thinking I'll put one in Denlor's tower and one in Yarash's possession.
I really love the 2E to 3E on the fly conversion flubs. Last night they ID'ed the ioun stones they found the graveyard. 3 are worth 8,000 gp each, the 4th is worth 30,000 gp.
Just a few "minor" trinkets. I guess its what they get for accidentally finding the vampire and luckily turning it. Of course, looting a non-staked vampire often comes back to haunt. |
