Posted - 21 Apr 2009 : 07:35:50 I'm running a 4e game set in 1388, the Year of the Tanarukka.
As a result, I'm looking for as much information on the Tanarukk as I can find. I've found the entry for them in Races of Faerun 3.5.
Is there any other information on them anywhere, and has anyone already done some homebrew translation of them as monsters or PCs to 4e that they'd like to share?

Glad you created them - who created the Fey'ri? |

Posted - 03 May 2009 : 16:40:50 I'll confess I just wanted something different to infest the ruins of Hellgate Keep and figured slightly-fiendish fire-resistant orcs who could manipulate PCs' watchfires would be different enough from the norm....
Steven who still grumbles they took away the alternate plural spelling of tanarukka he prefers over tanarukks |

Posted - 21 Apr 2009 : 18:37:17 Didn't Kaanyr Vhok and his horde also feature in another novel immediately after the WotSQ (which I found odd - it's as if two authors used the same group at the same time, and then they had to 'fix it' afterwards by speading it out a little - at least thats how it felt to me).
It may have been in The Last Mythal series, or that newer one featuring his pet succubus, Aliisza (The Emperyean Idiocy? ). I haven't read either of those, so it could even be both for all I know - I just remember hearing something else about them after the events in WotSQ.
Edit: Just checked Wiki (at least it's good for something) - it was The Emperyean Odyssey. |

Ah, excellent find, I'm guessing this is the canon reason for the year's name, will serve as good inspiration for my changes. |

Posted - 21 Apr 2009 : 17:18:35 yeah, they could be but nobody ever really used them for anything. |

yeah, i think Tanarukk have never really moved past being more important than fiendish monster #37, to my mind anyway. Although i'd think it would be difficult to make character stats for 4e for them, as they would probably be similar to orcs, given the basic nature of the 4e player race system.
I think they're a neat concept; I've just never really thought of anything to do with them. |
