Is the year of Mystra's death the last year to get a "name"? I'm running a campaign set between then and the 4e sourcebooks and would like to know what to call my years (not to mention the year names are great inspiration for events). |

However, we came up with more names than originally expected and so Steven added more named years to the rolls. It was a lot of names to come up with and I think all of us were pretty proud of the result. In the end, I believe the ultimate goal was to cover a period far back in history for creators and players to be able to use year names and far enough in the future to cover anticipated future events and products (which 200+ years should aptly cover I believe).

Heh... so they just lost over 100 years of 'wiggle room'. Granted, they should still have enough, but it's funny how what they thought was a lot turned out to be much less with the new design choices. |

Yes, yes, I'm getting to it.  I know, like everything else I've been working on, the Candlekeep's Guide to Forgotten Realms FAQ seems like it'll never happen. But I've had some recent input from unexpected sources, and that information needs to be compiled and properly assigned while the great work continues.

This discussion made me wonder why the timeline stops at 1600? (Year of Unseen Enemies) How the people of the Realms feels about that? Considering Elves with their long lifespans are not that far from that. Any thoughts? (aside 5th edition :-P) |

The roll was originally a RTF file?  Now that makes Faerun a truly fantastic land ...
Yup. There's a handful of the original downloads from WotC, circa 2000 -- before the site was being updated on a regular basis. Some of them were rtfs, and at least one was a doc. When they started updating everything on a regular basis, they first gave it to us as just web pages, and then later started offering downloadable pdfs.
What's odd is that even though there are no links anywhere to those original files, they're all still there on the site, and you can download them if you know the exact URL. |
