I'm guessing that most of you already know what zincarla is but I was wondering, would turn undead work against it? After all, technically, it is an undead

I don't think it's fair to call it author's freedom, since he had the idea before there were rules for it. Rather, someone dropped the ball when making rules for it.

*in hushed tones* We do remember that scimitar-wielder beating a balor twice and a marilith as well, do we? While being caught off guard by the odd yeti?

Yes, but... but... that was an advanced, templated, CR oo (supposed to be an infinity symbol) Yeti of DOOM!!!

And then there was that halfling that resisted the will of a god-like wizard for 20+ years and traveled into an active volcano to destroy a magic ring.

It's never good to put the story in game terms.

It was originally a spell used by powerful priestesses of Lolth to bring back a character to life and uses him as her puppet soldier. So far, we only knew of one in living memory, the scimitar-wielder's father. The spell used back then can be found in the Villains' Lorebook (free download at the WotC site).

3E turned the spell into a template, which can be found in Faiths & Pantheons (3,0E). Do note that while the template goes according to the spell, it would be quite unfeasible for a priestess to embark on somesuch - given the potential dangers included and the rather weak (in comparrisson to other undead / -templates) stats and abilities of the zin-carla puppet. "Better options" might be swordwraiths or cursts, bone creatures and sometimes even revenants - neither would proof to be even a tenth as dangerous to the caster as zin-carla. (Though some would point out that using this spell might be a test of Lolth etc. pp..)

BTW, since Malice's stats are given in the same book, we know that ability-wise she should not have been able to cast the spell. But maybe it was a "gift of Lolth" (-type of author's freedom).

its a spell ysed by lolth's clergy. From what i read of it, it seems like a warrior's version of a lich

The Zin-carla template is written up on page 184 of the Faiths and Pantheons book, and it is turnable but has the turn resistance special quality. It was later updated in the Player's Guide to Faerūn web enhancement (though it will not really give you much to go on if you do not possess the F&P book), which can be found on the Wizard's website for download.

I had to Google it, and even then it was tough.

Yes, it appears Turn Undead should work on it, but considering this is a gift of Lolth, I would at the very last make it as hard to turn as a Lich.

Link for Jorkens and any others curious where I found it.

No, I have absolutely no idea what a zincarla is, but you got me curious. What is it?
