There are probably other critters that do this; we've just started converting the Telexian Vine over at EN World, which also gains spells by eating spell casters. |

Posted - 11 Jul 2008 : 11:20:50 The Disenchanter was presented in 3rd. Ed. Fiend Folio.
The Laraken has seen its 3rd Ed. conversion in 3rd Ed. Shining South and in Bestiary of the Realms: Vol. 1 by Eric L. Boyd and Thomas M. Costa as well, found here.
I cannot provide further info on the Obliviax.
Another magic-eater I recall would be the Nishruu found in 3rd Ed. Monsters of Faerunand also again in 3rd Ed. Lost Empires of Faerun. In both books you will find another monster that does not eat magic but is absolutelly resistant to it: the flameskull.
Also see the Dweomervore from 3rd. City of Splendors: Waterdeep.
Hope that gives you plenty of new sinister ideas! |

Posted - 11 Jul 2008 : 10:04:06 The Laraken of the south has the ability to drain spells. It is in the 2ed. Shining South. The Obliviax (memory moss) drains memory, including spells. This one can be found in the 2ed. Monstrous Compendium II. The disenchanter is a camellike creature found in the eastern Realms if my memory is correct. I cant remember where it was first presented, but it was included in the Monstrous Annual 3. I have no idea if any of these have been converted to 3ed. though.
There are probably others, but these are all I can think of at the moment. |
