Kobold Quarterly ran an article on the arch angel Adriel last issue, and while I'm not certain about a powerful arch angel acting without divine direction in the Realms, the Glimmers in the article struck me as an interesting idea.

Glimmers are the ghosts of people that died sorry for the evil they did, but never having had the chance to fix the mistakes they made. Rather than dwelling on their own mistake, they work for the arch angel Adriel putting people in a position to do good and grant hope for others.

For example, if a Glimmer knows a hero might be needed in a given area, it might run off the heroes horses so that they will still be in that region when the orc warlord rolls through and demands tribute.

I really liked this idea, but I'm trying to think of a god for whom this sort of servant would be acceptable. I'm thinking Lathander might be, given that they (the Glimmers) are suppose to inspire hope, and also, Lathander does have a history of being a bit meddlesome when it comes to Good promoting its cause, and the Glimmers would allow him to do so in a manner that doesn't involve direct intervention.

At any rate, does anyone else have any thoughts on this? And should the Glimmers directly serve a good (for example Lathander), or should this be more as it was presented in the article, where they work for an arch angle that in turn works for a god?

I think Tymora (lady luck) --god of adventurers, skill and good fortune-- could also be a candidate. To the adventurers, the events engineered by the Glimmers would appear to be simply incredible coincidences.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of Tymora. Glimmers serving her might be more of a "let's give luck a bit of a nudge" type.
