Hi all,

I wanted to adapt the Savage Tide AP to the Moonshae Islands. Comments I had were pretty negative, and right now I don't feel sure about it either.

So I'd like to gather ideas and feedbacks from DMs/players, as I intend to start a Moonshae based campaign in the near future. My group and I have been playing in the region of the Dalelands for a while (2 years)with the same bunch of characters, in a big homebrewed campaign, and I feel it's time for something new!

Basically the game will start on one of the Moonshae islands with characters level 1. They will all be pretty much beginners, young and inexperienced in life.I will push for native characters, but foreigners coming from the continent could also be accepted. We will use basic rules (plus some home ones), magic enhanced with the FR material, and I have also allowed two new basic classes (the Knight and the Witch) as they fit the Moonshae background pretty well.

My ideas for adventures are not quite definite ( I'm towing with the idea of the return of an evil nordic warlord, exiled some years ago, who comes back to the Isles for revenge with a pirate fleet from the Nelanthers and other dark allies), so I'm very very interested to hear about your ideas, feedbacks and comments.

Especially regarding the very first adventure of this new batch of adventurers! An attack from the sea, some basic dungeoncrawl, a trip to another part of the archipelago,etc...You name it. This first adventure I'd like to keep short (8hrs of play or so) and fastpaced to install the feel of the setting.

So, fellow gamers, all your help is welcome!

And yes, go ahead, insert another few islands for afterwrds and use Freeport.

I'd say a bunch of ghouls! I'd say they're the most powerful undead besides liches. They take away from your level.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your advice.

One last question: do you think I could use the Freeport trilogy (which I doesn't own yet) as part of my campaign arc. I thought Freeport could be nicely inserted (with some slight changes)on Mintarn, as it's a good haven for pirates, criminals, and other kind of businesses...

So if you have ran the Freeport adventures or you know them, feel free to give me your feedback.

Many thanks!

Indeed. And I think, if I recall right, I've even written some Moonshae hooks. :)

Well, I don't know who's discouraging you or if it's too late, but unless you think your players wouldn't like it, I say just go ahead with STAP. (Heck, I'm running a very heavily modified and shortened STAP in the Silver Marches.) Re: the Moonshaes, probably you could just modify the first two adventures of STAP to something more suitable and then send the party to points south for the Isle of Dread, so you wouldn't need much modification at all after The Sea Wyvern's Wake.

Just a few thoughts

lots of pirtaes and wreckers and smuggling

have lots of weapons arriving from Waterdeep and going 'somewhere'

have internal trade go overland because of pirates and therefore have increased raids by brigands

lots of mystery (elven ghosts, haunting songs, disappearing people/cattle/villages etc)

lots of fantastic scenery

battling the elements, so dramatic cliff top chases as a storm lashes the coast.....

lots of runaway people (maybe bad/maybe escaping an arranged marriage/maybe an ex zhnet agent on the run from Luskan wizards) so lots of chasing across the isles trying to track them down

lots of wolves and bears and sprites and faeries causing problems for isolated hamlets

lost gem mines and various prospecters, maps (real and fake), hangers on, bandits and thieves, and monsters that are attracted to this throng of people tramping up montains and through valleys

slavers attacking isolated fishing ports

a whale hunt

A powerful warrior/priest/wizard hires the party to scout and map an area of wilderness that he/she/it fancies setting themselves up in as a Lord

hope this helps

Have you read the Moonshae trilogy?

Will your play be in the time of this island shattering events, or are you beginning this much later, when the inhabitants know about the fierce Northman and the hordes of undead from bedtime stories only?
