Khelben's trial seems to have resulted in Elminster and many others coming down on the side of the Blackstaff, but does anyone think that a campaign could definitely do good by suggesting that he was wrong in his decisions and the trust in him was misplaced?

I rather like the "original" Harpers more than the Moonstars. I'm debating how far I can realistically take the conflict between the two groups but the PCs are squarely on the side of the former.

you can use one of Khelben's evil recruits (I recall a vampire) to be in direct conflict with the PCs over something. The fact that he uses evil recruits could keep the conflict going.
