Just to throw this out there, in case someone from FR design is listening. The weave is gone. The shadow weave is gone. What happened to items created using the weave? What happened to items using the shadow weave? Are they destroyed? Are they just waiting to be re-enchanted? Are they unhindered in any way? Does it only affect items that cast spells (thus a +1 sword would be unaffected, or even a +1 sword with fire burst and ghost touch would be unaffected).

yeah, they recovered the city that had the mythallar piercing the brain of a giant undersea creature. The mythallar was supposed to be sentient.

I seem to remember (though I dont have the book in front of me and cannot remember the date) that it was mentioned in the GHotR that Shade Enclave raised another floating city.

as written so far, I believe so, thought nothing says they couldn't have corrupted the mythallar of recovered cities.

I don't thinks so. As stated in the Prologue of the Orc King, the Empire of Netheril is very much alive and thriving in the time 100 years in the future, so it is very likely that the cities of Netheril survived the spellplague.

Shar probably gave them advance notice to land.

Yeah, I can imagine that this situation might be a bit different. When Mystryl died, the Weave was only gone of a little while, so magic items could have reacted in a manner sort of like an alarm clock when the power goes out for a few seconds. They "flickered" but didn't go out.

During the Time of Troubles, the Weave never went away, it just became chaotic. It would almost be like a series of brown outs and power surges. Some magic items may have reacted badly, but for the most part, nothing really changed.

This situation is like the entire power grid going down, and instead of putting the grid back up, a whole new alternate power supply is being substituted. So it remains to be seen if Weave magic items are the right "amplitude" to still function under the new system.

I'll be interested to find this out myself, as I was always under the impression that magic in general couldn't function properly without the Weave, at least not on anything more than a very rudimentary (i.e. low magic) level.

You put it exactly as I see it. When Mystryl died, the weave didn't go away... it was just unmanaged for a few seconds. When the ToT happened, again, it was unmanaged and thereby chaotic. With the new power source, I would almost guarantee that shadow weave items quit functioning (since they were some weird setup) and the shadow weave is gone. Weave items, being a "standard" magic may or may not go away. Then comes in the question of things like Mythallars... theoretically, these are tied to the weave since when Mystryl fell they went dormant. But your simple +1 sword... did it link to the weave, or was the weave used to link it to the "magical backbone". If this isn't the case, Toril is facing a major crisis because there are quite simply too many creatures out there who have damage reduction that requires magic, or an alignment, etc.... and recreating that many weapons would be a pretty full blown disaster. It would be akin to how I surmised that the salamanders were able to stand up so ably to the Thayans during the salamander war in 2nd edition (i.e. 2nd edition, you NEEDED a magic weapon to hit them... therefore it was understandable why Thay had such problems when they turned on each other).

Has anything actually been said with regard to the floating cities of Shade?

I have to wonder with no Weave/Shadow Weave if they come crashing down again.

You know, the idea that the Weave isn't so much gone as transmuted into something at first unrecognizable is kind of a cool idea, especially compared to the idea that the Weave is gone but magic just sort of "adapted." Hopefully the right people are paying attention to this.

What happened during the Time of Troubles with magical items??? Everything I've read suggested that they still worked but I can see why you are asking. Good luck in your search for an answer.
