I found this particularly interesting article in the FR books section on the WotC site. It is called Bane of the Gods - The Elder Eternal Evils of the Forgotten Realms, and I thought it might trigger some interesting discussion.

Thoughts...

Based upon Jergal's entry in Faiths and Pantheons and the bit on Dendar, Jergal's going to be taking notes. Dendar will kill Ubtao, eat the sun, and all the while Jergal's going to be quietly writing...

My question is, who then, is Dendar to the god Jergal? I've never seen mention of Dendar in any Jergal related texts....canon or otherwise....

(For those who do not know...Jergal and his worshippers are the alleged stewards of the end of the world...a title that Dendar also claims.)

I agree with Arion. These creatures are scary-and they're meant to be. I frequently run campaigns that end with an epic battle against evil, and I've had to come up with most of the "evils" myself. Dendar should hook right into the end of one I'm doing, though...

Garen Thal...I find thy words a little odd....I don't think that our beloved Perth was asking for a critique of the link...just the creatures inherent within it...ah well....what do I know?

At any rate, I love the content...I think it adds a whole new dimension to Toril to reiterate the presence of creatures that defy the norm of Faerun's "physics". Shakes things up for some of the more invincible characters in the world....and really expands the imagination...

Kinda scares the hell out of this little elven bard, truth be ye told!

Thoughts, hmm?

To be as polite as I possibly can, the linked work is paraphrased from the end of Powers and Pantheons, the 2E book in the Faiths and Avatars series dealing with the demigods of the Faerūnian pantheon, and the other human pantheons of the Realms (Chultan, Untheric, and Mulhorandi). Some phrasing has changed, as have references to planes which no longer exist in the FR cosmology, but this is otherwise just a restatement of Eric Boyd's work in that earlier book.

To be frank, that the article simply reiterates information already available doesn't particularly bother me. What does bother me is that the reader is referred to Powers and Pantheons for "additional information," and told that the artwork comes from that tome. It seems ridiculous to me that the editors would credit the source of the original artwork, but not of the information itself.

Just my thoughts on the subject...

Indeed Sage, I have downloaded said article and intend to read it soon and ultimately comment here. I found it of particular interest as ive just this past day finished reading Prince of Lies, which features some of the creatures on there.
