By scrolling down to the relevant section, this month's WotC Previews has some interesting preview material on the Aleax, and a sample Half-Illithid from the new Underdark tome.

Thoughts?...

The Illithid, a perfect race, even more so than the Drow. Yes, perfect in everyway... They should take over the surface world...

As for the book of vile Darkness... don't remind me... even during my last exursion the Book was the only one that was bloody out!!! It's really beginning to pike me off.... ( did I use the term correctly Wil?)

Hmmm,I am no expert by any means but I believe that would be correct.
Piked off is mad so I don't see why not.

by the way the Book of Vile Darkness is a very good book and all Illithids should die a i just dint like them, they are creppy

Yup,your right on both counts.
I've seen arguments but never that kind of behavior!!!

There isn't any courtship in the mind flayer life cycle. Mind flayer young exist as larvae in the pool surrounding the elder brain. To create a half-illithid, a mind flayer simply has to introduce a larva to the brain of a unorthodox creature. Good thing you can't imagine that group, I don't think anyone wants to.

WoW,I couldn't imagine that group.That is a nightmare.why did you let
Cardinal Deimos play anyway?(Joking Cardinal.)
I'm not nor ever have been the DM but I think we would part ways if talking didn't do it.

I like the idea of the Half-Illithid,Beholder and Mindflayer.Wouldn't
want to see the courtship that brought this to pass though.

Oh, it would have been fine...with a group of experienced, mature players. With the group in question, the game quickly degenerated into "sack this village, rape, torture, and sacrifice the villagers, then sell their body parts for money." I refer to the group in question as my "nightmare party", as there are so many things that have gone wrong...that I recently had to leave the group just from general disgust. Examples include having the longest-running campaign record set at ten sessions, having a continually rotating group of characters...very odd ones at that, and having them occasionally turn into homicidal maniacs."It's a dwarven patrol.""I kill it!" And they get mad when people send assassins and adventuring teams after them.

By Mephistopheles Mumbling mouth!
To hold that tome in my hands... Drat it all! Note to self Move away from spine of the world... Tomes of knoweledge are so hard to find and the caravan prices are simply murder...
Just out of curiousity, why do avoid the book of Vile Darkness campaigns if I may ask? It couldn't be much worse than regular campaigns..
Arivia Posted - 16 Sep 2003 : 09:21:11
I was planning to do the same. It was simple timing that doomed my efforts.
The Sage Posted - 16 Sep 2003 : 09:10:06
That's understandable. Although I went in the opposite direction. When BoVD was released, I made sure to purchase a copy and read it through entirely, so that if any of my players did get a hold of it, and wanted to use the material inside, I was better prepared to counter it, or reject it straight out.

Arivia Posted - 16 Sep 2003 : 08:51:17
It wasn't the content, the book itself was fine. It was the fact that a player of mine picked it up before I did, so I've been deflecting requests for a very vile campaign since it came out. Then, when someone else guest DMs, they always inevitably turn to the BoVD. I've simply started skipping those sessions. Oh, well...
The Sage Posted - 16 Sep 2003 : 08:46:19
What do you mean?. I though BoVD was one of WotC's better tomes. What exactly caused you headaches...?.

Arivia Posted - 15 Sep 2003 : 14:59:25
The aleax reminds me of the revenant or the curst. The half-beholder/illithid is very good...I'm going to like that one. Overall, they both look very good. I hope the Book of Exalted Deeds is a bit more usable and less of a headache than the Book of Vile Darkness, however.
