But, they appear to be hedging there bets on the "one setting a year rule" by releasing a 'lite' version of Gamma World and a Castle Ravenloft board game.
Thoughts? |

Curious.
It's falling outside of the one-a-year RPG settings, being a standalone game of sorts, and since it's going to have randomized packs of expansion cards for sale, it's not precisely a true RPG from all indications at this point. |

I think I'll get those last few RL novels I havent read and get them in the Q!
As you likely already know, nobleknight.com has some on offer. And, also, be on the lookout for the reprinted editions -- under the "Ravenloft Chronicles" brand -- which might still linger on the shelves of your local bookstore. |

A gamma world product - Famine in Fargo. Boxed set, adventure focused. 16 encounters. token sheets, poster maps. 10 additional cards for GM
Heh. That's interesting.

Posted - 29 Jan 2010 : 14:53:42 Okay, looked a bit more in-depth at TSR:
- "The Red Box" (release 9/7)
- Interesting, a new "Basic" version of D&D.
- Rules Compendium (release 9/21)
- Some are already claiming that this is the herald for 5E since the last couple of times a Rules Compendium came out, it was at the end of an edition...
- Gamma World Roleplaying Game (release 10/19)
- As it's described, it's a complete standalone product *based* on 4th edition. It will be followed up by *expansions* (November: Famine in Far-go, December: Legion of Gold)
- Dungeon Master's Kit (release 10/19)
- I read the description to this and it sounds like a glorified DM Screen (yet another one). It's chock full of "Awesome tools, rules, and adventure content for every Dungeon Master". Isn't that what the DMG books are for?
- Monster Vault (release 12/19)
- Again, this I don't understand. Apparently it's a repackaging of already published 4E monsters with some variants...
Along with the announcement Ravenloft board game for next year, another board game (Dungeons of Dragonfire Mountain) will be released in November. I have a STRONG suspicion that Fantasy Flight Games (publishers of Descent) may want to check the copyright laws on this, since it sounds like an identical game...
Edit: Honestly, this all sounds a lot like mistakes decisions made back in the old TSR days when they started losing money like crazy. Games using different systems, board games, box sets. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2010 : 23:40:09 I saw the Gamma World book the other day while scanning Amazon for other stuff. If this is a legitimate source, then it's something I'm glad to see. There's not be an official GW update in so long -- discounting the Omega World module of a few years ago from an old POLYHEDRON. This is one world that really need to "feel the love" again, I think.
And Red Walker's right on the mark. Anything RAVENLOFT makes me a Happy Sage! |
