description by TSR on the reverse of the actual product: 'Between the valiant kingdoms of the western Realms and the exotic eastern lands of Kara-Tur lies a vast, unexplored kingdom. For centuries, the "civilized" peoples of the Forgotten Realms have given little notice to these barbarians. Now, a powerful leader has united the wild horsemen into a mighty force - an army powerful enough to challenge the world'. Other titles in the Empires Trilogy: |

This is a reasonably slow-paced book with the odd burst of action just at the right time. Quite an enjoyable read of what is the first part of a major event within the Forgotten Realms. The author describes the alternate culture and ways of the Horde of Yamun Kahan and portrays the terror and intimidation of these people and their leader on the Khazari priest from which angle the book is written. I found this book a pleasure to read, although some areas did tend to go on for an unnecessary number of chapters with little relevence to the plot. There is a feeling of the Horde being total outsiders and not understanding how the rest of the world live and rule, and indeed that there is a huge world out there! |
